Umbria is the only one of the 13 regions of Italy that is completely land locked. It is considered Italy's Green Lung as it is covered in beautiful trees and is nestled among the Apennine Mountains along the spine of the boot. Regional cuisine consists of mushrooms and wild bore, among other delicious local ingredients, and not to mention the tasty wines! This is a rustic region of Italy, with medieval hilltop burgs.
Follow me into the region of Umbria where my own parents and aunt live.
I will host you for one week in your own private flat or villa (depending on time of year and actual location in Umbria), and will show you why this region is called the Green Lung of Italy. Forests of evergreens and oaks, great mushroom picking, delicious meats and stunning little medieval burgs on top of just about all mountain and hill tops. We will sightsee AND taste delicious local cuisine (both at local restaurants and with your own private chef).
Some of the hilltop towns considered in the itinerary are San Gemini (famous for its' delicious water, and where my parents live), Norcia (famous for it's meat production), Gubbio (famous for it's festival of flowers every spring), and Narni and Cesi.
We will be tasting wines, olive oils, cheeses and artisan waters, while living amongst the locals. We'll take a passeggiata (and afternoon walk) to savor local gelato and sip espressos, while we take in the scents and sights of small-town living in the region of Umbria.
